Come as you are! The long awaited, much anticipated WCRS community radio benefit is tomorrow night... Saturday, April 12th, 6 pm to 1 am at the Crest Tavern, 2875 Indianola, just up the street from the Community Market on Cresview Rd. Come when you can! Eric Nassau kicks it off from 6 p.m. and from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Michael Maher's band takes the stage featuring the gifted voice of Helen Haggerty. The fabulous jam band Local Color takes over from 8:30 - 10 p.m. Come late and hear the Jared Mahone band bring it all home from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eat. Drink. Dance. 50/50 RAFFLE. Silent Auction. Simply Living Website Redesign Project Needs a Little Help from Friends in Our Community...

Earth Day Event to Transform Trash into Fashion!
Fashionistas Alert! The Fuse Factory Electronic & Digital Arts Lab, an emerging not-for-profit arts organization in Columbus, is organizing a Trash Fashion Show as part of Now Get Busy! an Earth Day celebration organized by Green Columbus in Goodale Park on April 26th from 12 noon to 6:00pm. Children and adults alike are invited to participate in creating, cheering, or judging.
Following an afternoon of transforming trash into fashion, participant designers or their designated models take to the red carpet and showcase their creations for public judging. Professional fashion designers will be on hand to help turn your imagination into reality on stage, complete with music, emcee and prizes for those who display the most innovative use of materials. Sponsors Needed for Whetstone Race on Memorial Day to Benefit Clintonville Resources Center (CRC)
Bill Owens, Executive Director of the CRC (and Co-op Board member), expects about 300-500 runners to sign up for the 5k race. "This will be a race for everyone," Owens said, "and with the race taking a scenic route through Whetstone Park, it should be enjoyable for anyone looking to support the CRC. "I think we'll have a combination of those people who do this on a regular basis and those Clintonville residents who just want to take a pleasant walk on Memorial Day and support the CRC," Owens said. progress has been made in signing up local business sponsors, but more are needed. Jerónimo Osorio Chen, Human Rights Leader and Environmentalist from Guatemala in Columbus April 16-17
Heather Dean's family will be hosting Jerónimo Osorio Chen, a leader who has been active in opposing the construction of a
hydro-electric dam that could flood several indigenous villages and have devastating ecological consequences. Jerónimo will be in Columbus as part of a national speaking tour sponsored by the Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA). Heather is scheduling a number of formal and informal speaking events for Jerónimo, on the afternoon and evening of April 16 and throughout the
day on April 17. To meet Jerónimo or hear him speak, contact Heather at copalaa2003@yahoo.com or 267-3386. Jerónimo has worked to promote indigenous rights, cooperative economics, and citizen participation and he played a key role in organizing a 2007 referendum in which local indigenous villages voted against oil exploration and the construction of a hydroelectric dam in their region. He will talk about his people's current efforts to build just and ecologically sound communities in order to avoid the mistakes of the past.

Menu for the Future is a six-session discussion course that offers participants the opportunity to examine the effects of modern industrial agriculture on both human and ecological health, explore emerging food system alternatives, and consider how you can contribute to a more sustainable food supply. You are invited to a very special event: An Evening with Wahu Kaara, Executive director of the Kenya Debt Relief Network. Kaara is a 2005 Nobel Peace Prize nominee and a 2007 Kenyan presidential candidate. Abdi Roble, creator and photographer of the Somali Documentary Project (in Columbus) will also speak. Jubilee's 3rd Annual National Grassroots Training & Action Conference will be held this year in Columbus, Ohio! Dave Marsolo will lead a workshop on native plant propagation. Plant prechilled seeds of several unusual plants-including woodland species, rock garden and annuals. Classes are held the second Saturday of each month, Feb. thru June. These classes are not just cooking demonstrations. Students prep, cook, serve, eat, and clean up, enjoying a social evening with like-minded friends. This is the third class and will focus on Mediterranean Vegetarian food, and will include recipes from Greece, Turkey and Lebanon. Each of the classes feature different International cuisines but with a 'fusion' twist. In other words, we will use basically the cuisine of whichever country we are working on, and then mix it up with the ingredients and methods. There will be vegetarian foods only in the remaining classes. Cost: $30 per student, or $25 each for two students coming together, and paid in advance. The first two classes were both full. Instructor Father John comes from a family of wine makers, including an uncle who made wine from the wild grapes on his farm and a grandmother whose favorite wine recipes included dandelion wine. Fee: $50. Register by April 11. For the first class, bring a 1.5 to 2 gallon plastic bucket (food quality clean). By the end of 6 months, you will need 6 screw top wine bottles and caps.
