Hello Everyone,

Happy St. Patricks Day weekend!  Winter is finally giving way to spring as our record 20-inch snowfall disappears in the recent 50 degree "heat wave."  There are lots of opportunities to enjoy music, dancing, darts, and draughts at local pubs... Monday is the official day of the Parade downtown and the annual "Family Gathering" at Vets Memorial.  Get the details from the Shamrock Club of Columbus at, you guessed it, http://www.shamrockclubofcolumbus.com/.

Have you checked out the new March edition of the Co-op's Communicator Amanda Bell, the new editor, did
a fine job putting it together - enjoy the great pics, info on new products at the Market, a sexy article by our own hebal guru Alexander Leahy called "Hot Plants for Hot Pants"... and you will find a how-to primer on using natural dyes for Easter eggs, a neat recipe just for kids, a recipe for Lithuanian mushroom cookies, an article on the benefits of buying bulk foods, Jeff Lund on the beer drinker's favorite holiday!, a piece by a Waldorf mom, and of course lots of  local ads, bargains this month, and more.  And hey, a full page on the back cover from Studio 35, which will host a St. Patrick's Day celebration with The Commitments on Sunday, March 16.

Amanda Bell is also turning her attention to the long neglected Community Market website...  thanks to backend programming from long time co-op member and computer guru Pat Collins, you will soon see new and updated features! Amanda has already uploaded The Communicator, and Gwen Uetrecht recently posted the latest version of the Co-op By-laws.  I will be uploading this Community Update and e-calendar each week on the Co-op website at http://www.communitymarket.org.

Odds & Ends
"No One Wins When Clowns Fight" is part of the complete set of small booklets by local poet, musician (and co-op board) member Frank Tennyson, aka Frank Shearer.  Other titles in the set are characteristically whimsical in the zen spirit... "Never Pole Vault Into a Looney Bin," "Skinny Dippin' in Deep Thought," and "The Zen of Coffeee."  All titles are available at the Simply Living bookstore or contact Frank <frank_tennyson@gmail.com>.  Frank has been busy of late organizing the recent fundraiser/party/music festival and Indian food feast at the Crest Tavern.  He's working on another one at the Crest on Sat. April 12.  And Frank collaborates with John Harrison in bringing meditation to the coffee shops...  see the calendar entry for tonight's event at the Global Gallery in German Village.

The event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence of war crimes they have witnessed. In addition, there will be panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony. Tune to WCRS radio to participate!

Fri. Mar. 14  Film Screening of Iraqi Women Speak Out  7 p.m.
In March 2006, Code Pink invited eight Iraqi Women to the U.S. to speak about their experiences under the U.S. invasion and occupation.  They were doctors, engineers, professors, and journalists.  Two of the women had their entire families killed by U.S. troops and they were denied visas to enter the U.S. on the grounds that they did not have sufficient family to guarantee they would return to Iraq.  The six women who were given visas traveled separately to dozens of cities throughout the U.S., speaking with community groups, churches, veterans, and families of active duty GIS.  They asked Americans to end the occupation and bring all the troops home immediately.  Upon their return to Iraq they faced death threats, lost their jobs, and some were forced into exile.  The remarkable courage of these women and the authenticity of their witness to the horrendous reality of the occupation and challenges Americans to take responsibility for the actions of the U.S. government.
