Community Update
>>>Natural Foods, Simple
Living, Good People, Building Community<<<
Friday, December 18, 2009
As 2009 winds down the Community
Update will take a holiday break
next week and we'll be back in 2010! There are lots of upcoming
events
and our January calendar is filling up fast. It's a good time to
take
stock, slow down a bit, and make some resolutions - to strengthen our
individual spirit, and then share our renewed energy with the
community. The need is great and the time is right to get
involved at
the local level where we can make change happen, together.
Gabe Sturgess,
the Co-op General Manager, recently posted an update on the Community
Market website. Check out the home page and read about the changes
coming soon... a third check out register, new counter tops, a
streamlined design and we're almost ready to "go live" with the
long-awaited Point of Sale system to help us track inventory
efficiently and make sure the products you want are on our
shelves. And the Market has teamed up
with Mountain Fresh Water out of
Kentucky to build a custom water dispenser for the store. This
isn't
just any water dispenser; this is a reverse osmosis super oxygenated
water dispenser! And the Raven Rocks Christmas trees -
there are only 4 left after you have purchased 130 trees! We
love it when you buy local, and Shop Co-op!
"Movement teaches parents alternative to harried
lives" runs the headlne in last Friday's
Dispatch. Simply Living members Donna Sigl-Davies
and Michael & Ali Malley were quoted by Dispatch writer Rita
Price, who made this apt analogy, "First
came the slow-food movement, working to counteract fast fare and put
the happy back in meals. Slow parenting proposes a similar alternative
to screen-watching, over-scheduled, materialistic kids." If
you
missed the article, check it out at http://ow.ly/Mizo (original

Better WCRS
Reception on 98.3 FM! Tune in Our Local Community Radio Station!
WCRS' translator station, 98.3
FM, recently raised its antenna height, and the signal is now
significantly clearer and stronger in many areas of Franklin County. The
antenna was raised 42' and repositioned, and some corroded connectors
were replaced, all of which are contributing to much better reception
for many listeners. Visit www.wcrsfm.org to view the current
schedule and
to listen ANYTIME via streaming and podcasts. Big
changes are also in
the works for our station at 102.1, as we plan to purchase and install
a much better antenna soon.

Shakespeare
Reading Group Meets First Tuesdays at Wild Goose Creative 7 -
9:30
p.m.
Did you really think
Shakespeare's works survived for over 400
years merely because sadistic schoolmarms ever desired to inflict
literary torture on unsuspecting children? Hogwash! Come join the
Motleys to discover why them-as-knows say the Bard's words are truly
immortal. Nervous? It's a non-judgmental environment where we're all
acknowledged learners. We share what we know as we read through the
plays, and we all stumble over the anachronisms and colloquialisms of
Elizabethan speech. It's fun, it's funny, it's lively, and it's live!
The Motleys read aloud, discuss and enjoy Shakespeare's plays in good
company. We may supplement our readings with screenings of filmed
productions, when available and time permitting. Who: Mature high
school students on up. Visit http://www.wildgoosecreative.
