Sun Mar 6 Highlands Nature Sanctuary, Guided Hikes into Etawah Woods, First Sunday-of-every-
month guided hike led by Debbie Miller or Donna Ganahl, NO FEE; 1:00 ­ 3:30; Etawah Woods
Parking Lot, bring drinking water, Registration not necessary for hike unless coming with a large
group. Enjoy a leisurely 1 1/4 mile guided hike through Etawah Woods and down into the magical

Sun Mar 6 5:30-8:30 p.m. The Serving Earth group will be hosting Simply Soup for the Soul, a
nourishing Sunday evening meal of homemade vegan soup and bread at the home of Becky and John
Allen. Soup recipe courtesy of Benevolence. Donations will benefit Highland Nature Sanctuary. Bring
a container to take home leftovers. A dialogue circle will be held after dinner for those interested.

Sat Mar 12 - Maple Sugar Festival and Pancake Breakfast at Stratford Ecological Center. 9:00am-
1:00pm. Breakfast served until noon. Bring your family and join us in the crisp winter air as we turn
tree sap into sweet maple syrup. Wagon rides, hikes, tree tapping, sap hauling, and sugar shack
interpretation. Warm up and fill your tummy with homemade pancakes and syrup made at Stratford
and our own organic sausage. $4 adults/$2 kids for admission only, $8 adults/$6 kids for admission
and breakfast. Advance ticket sales include a dollar-off syrup coupon. Dress for the weather and
expect mud.

RIE, 1:30 P.M., Miniature but Miraculous Signs of Spring in the Prairie. To register for this free

Estimated driving time from Cincinnati is 1 1/2 hours, and from Columbus, 2 hours and fifteen
minutes.
Sat Mar 19 - Organic Lawncare. 10:00am-noon. Organic lawn care focuses on creating active soil
life, which in turn produces healthy lawns. Living soil is your best protection against lawn care
problems. Jenn and Nate Elfner of Elfner Landscape, a local organic landscaping company, will lead

Wed Mar 23, one hour after sunset - Vernal Pond Study. Join us in monitoring Stratford Ecological
Center's buttonbush swamp as part of a statewide effort. Appropriate for all ages. March is when
salamander breeding takes place, so hopefully we'll get lucky and see the migration. Bring a good
flashlight and mud boots. Free.
