The Communicator - March 2005

(continued from the previous page)
In addition to dancing as much as he can, Jack practices
yoga on a regular basis and has been a student of Kathleen
Lewis for several years. He is also a self-professed pan-
theist (the "divine" and the material world are one and the
"divine" is present in all things). He believes that nothing
is permanent, especially humans. "When you step into
the river, you never step into the same river twice. The
river is still there, but it's not the same river, the water is
different every time. I think my life and everyone else's
life is the same way. We're not the same people we were
yesterday. We have different cells in us, different mol-
ecules in us ... there's nothing permanent about us." And
so it's foolish to become so attached to our material things
and try to dominate the Earth's resources it's all just an
illusion, he says.
But the dirt in your house is probably not an illusion, and
(thank goodness) it isn't permanent! And as the weather
gets warmer and the daylight gets longer and you get the
itch to "spring clean" everything, remember to check out
Jack's Cleaning Tips (insert) and Michael Cleveland's non-
toxic home-made cleaning recipes! And if you decide that
you need help, there are many qualified eco-friendly clean-
ing services available to you, including Jack Burdette and
Sunburd Cleaning!
JACK'S CLEANING TIPS
For stubborn bath tub mold & mildew. Don't
reach for Tilex! Make sure the grout is dry, take a dry
toothbrush and scrub the mold should crumble
and flake off. Follow with a vinegar & water rinse.
Bathtub dirt & scum. Make a loose paste of bak-
ing powder and water and coat entire tub. Let stand
for 5 or more minutes (clean mirrors, toilet and/or
sink while waiting). Wipe down with rough sponge
and rinse with vinegar & water solution to polish &
shine.
Use separate cleaning clothes or rags for the
toilet and wash after each cleaning. Don't use on any-
thing else to prevent the spread of toilet dirt and
germs.
