The city, Sean says, is a unique mix of Spanish colonial and
indigenous Mayan cultures. Since coffee production is the
most common occupation in the mountains of Chiapas and an
integral part of the indigenous culture, the recent introduc-
tion of the Fair Trade business model has created tremendous
opportunity there.
During the slideshow presentation, Sean will touch on these
points, as well as talk about the indigenous Zapatistas, who for
years, have been struggling for land, liberty and justice in
Chiapas.
"I saw the struggle for human dignity and the way the
Zapatista movement and Fair Trade coffee cooperatives have
empowered the indigenous communities," Sean says.
If you are interested in learning more about Fair Trade coffee
and the indigenous cultures of Chiapas, please join us on
March 18th at 6:30 pm at the Clintonville Resource Center.
