The Communicator - June 2005
CCM's first Community Garden at Crestview Middle School is off to a great start! Volunteers gathered on Saturday May
21 to prepare the space for students, who will get a hands-on experience in growing and understanding where food
comes from something that has been lost as our culture drifts away from local farmers and more towards mega farms.
The project has several benefits including connecting school children in a meaningful way to the gifts of the earth,
promoting healthy eating and understanding the importance of local produce. The project has gained endorsement
from several Clintonville-based community groups including Simply Living and the Greater Columbus Food Shed
Project and Seeds of Change, one of our vendors who donated over 100 packets of flower and vegetable seeds. If you're
interested in getting down and dirty this summer, don't hesitate to volunteer! Contact Garden Coordinator Amy
Heglund at the Market at 268-4081.
Peppers and cabbages.
Straw was laid down last to keep the moisture in since the garden will get full sun all day.
