Summer has begun, and as I suggested previously please let me know how the
energy of this year's unique alignment of the full moon and the beginning day of
summer feels to you. I will say it seems to me energies and experience during this
time shift from one end of the continuum to the other in a very abrupt, uncommon
and growth-enhancing manner. In other words, it seems that the normal becomes
the background and the opposite of normal becomes the prominent experience or
position.
For me that meant a trip to Hawaii for a vacation and family wedding; sleeping
beneath the stars and full moon on Oahu's Lanakai beach just a few steps from the
ocean water lapping at the shore.
There are many great lessons to be learned from the ocean. My experience from my trip gave me a few from the very
simplistic experience of touching it as so many everyday around the world do; amusing themselves at the water's
edge, spending endless hours enthralled in the magic and power of its enormity, completely entranced by being in it,
near it, and experiencing the thrill of relaxing into the power and the flow of it.
An amazing yet simple experience, in spite of the ocean's tremendous power, is just floating. One can with calm yet
respectful sensitivity during the right conditions float safely and comfortably on the water without moving a finger for
long periods of time. In addition, given the right conditions, those who have the feel and go with the flow of the ocean
can find a point of Zen as the surfer does to ride the breaking waves in a manner that enhances their mobility, position
and experience by expanding minimal effort and experiencing great results and satisfaction. Take it from someone
who had a hard time lying on top of a boogie board surfing requires a lot more skill and prowess than one might
consider.
The concept I would like to share is that in life, going with the flow and finding the point of least resistance personally
and yet still finding a way to use the strength and power of that which you are subject to and immersed in is and can be
a position of great opportunity.
You might consider first asking yourself what am I subject to, and consider contemplating the strength and power of
those forces and think about how they might work for you in a way that can advance your opportunity. I would, of
course, encourage us all to apply this to our Cooperative Community Business Team, asking us to consider these same
questions. What are the conditions we are immersed in within the Retail Natural Foods Business economy? What are
we subject to in that economy? How can we use the power and strength of that economy to create a position of
opportunity for ourselves and others?
Congratulations to the many of you members and friends who supported our Market to make May and June 2005 both
record-breaking sales months. We are very proud to have you on our team. Thank you for continuing to make our
Market great!
In addition, a very special commendation goes to our ComFest volunteers, participating and supportive staff mem-
bers, and our Comfest Team Captains Robert Feller, Sean Luse and Russell Selkirk on a job well done.
