Organic Food Market. Health Food Store. Herbs. Supplements. Healthy Lifestyle. These are some of the words
descriptive of `things' and concepts that our Clintonville Community Market and Natural Living community find of
import in our lives. Most of us reading this newsletter feel a strong bond with our Market, our employees, and our
fellow market members because of our common interests and beliefs as to what we should put in and how we should
care for the remarkable `machines' we call our bodies.
There is another healthy lifestyle concept of which we may not all be aware, the concept known as Community
Supported Agriculture (CSA). As a part of such a project, you actually join forces with a local farmer with a `sub-
scription', by which you purchase a `share' of the farmer's products. There are many and varied products available
from such farms under such programs. We provide many great products in our store, but there are some things that
we cannot provide: for a prime example - unpasteurized milk. There are many who feel that pasteurization of milk
destroys many of its benefits, but we are not allowed to sell milk without it being pasteurized. The farmer, however,
can sell it directly to you, in its natural state.
Part of the beauty of our Market is its convenience drive, walk or bike a short distance, and there we find most of
what we want or need. But there is attractiveness to establishing a relationship with the person who is growing the
food you eat. If you find such an arrangement of interest, I recommend that you further examine the concept by
discussing it with others with whom you might share the bounty, and by visiting farms and farmers in person, if at
all possible, until you find one or more that you are comfortable dealing with - producers with whom you have
common interests and ideals, and then make sure that you both understand exactly what your relationship will be,
and how it will work.
