There are many different types of volunteer opportunities at the Market- it kind of depends on how often, how long, and when you want to work, and what kinds of things you want to do. We honor volunteer discounts on a month-to month basis, so if you volunteer one month but not the next, you will use your volunteer discount the first month, but not the next.
What often works well for new volunteers is to let me know a time/day that you think you want to work, choose a date to start, and Gwen Uetrecht can connect you with the staff who will be on at that time. Daytime volunteers often help with produce, to the delight of our produce supervisor. Mondays and Fridays are especially good days for that. Late afternoon and evening folks often help with pricing and stocking. We have big orders that come in on Mon, Wed, and Fri. afternoons/ evenings and can always use help with these.
We love when volunteers can come in on a regular or semi-regular schedule, but we know that's not possible for some folks, and appreciate all volunteers, however sporadic. If you drop in unexpectedly, that's fine, but it may take a while for the staff to find something for you to do!
Special Projects:
An option that works well for folks who live nearby and come in often is to "Adopt a shelf". You can help stock and maintain the shelf for 15 or 20 minutes each time you come in, and we'll put up a little tag with info about you on your shelf!
Looking towards Spring, we have a couple of sustainability-minded volunteers wanting to revitalize and tend the compost, and are looking to generate a group of folks to work on that.
On the last Saturday of the month, from 8-10AM , volunteers converge to do deep cleaning of the market.
Throughout the year we have special events that need short-term volunteering, such as our annual benefit and inventories. Look for sign-up sheets in the store that announce the dates and times!
